Math Camp – Week 1: Building Strong Math Thinkers

Morning Focus:

  • Morning Focus: Logic, pattern recognition, and mathematical confidence.We move beyond rote memorization and focus on the why and how behind the numbers, helping students build strong thinking skills and confidence for the upcoming school year.

Morning Class Introduction

Math Camp – Week 1: Building Strong Math Thinkers (Number Sense & Mental Math)

Grades 1–2:

Students develop a deep understanding of numbers through place value, number bonds, and mental math strategies, with a focus on confidence and explaining their thinking.

Grades 3–4:

Students strengthen their understanding of large numbers, estimation, and efficient mental math strategies while learning to choose and explain smart solution methods.

Grades 5–6:

Students refine mental math using integers, decimals, and efficient calculation strategies, focusing on accuracy, reasoning, and mathematical confidence.

The Afternoon Electives

  • Your Summer, Your Choice. We believe in giving students agency. Every week, all students (regardless of their morning group) can choose how they want to spend their afternoon.

Option A: The Design Studio (Arts & Crafts)

  • For the Makers and Dreamers. A hands-on environment where imagination takes physical form.
  • The Vibe: Creative, tactile, and relaxed.
  • The Activities: Projects change weekly and may range from painting and sketching to 3D modeling, clay work, and structural building. We focus on the process of creating art to relax the mind.

Option B: The Strategy Arena (Mind Sports & Games)

  • For the Thinkers and Tacticians. A social hub where games are used to sharpen the mind
  • The Vibe: Energetic, social, and strategic.
  • The Activities: This is not just free play. We facilitate board games that require foresight and logic—including Chess, Go, Monopoly, Catan, and collaborative team challenges. Students learn to plan ahead, negotiate with peers, and manage risk.

Registration

  • Choose Your Schedule: You may register for individual weeks, but for the deepest learning impact, we highly recommend the 3-Week Math Block or the 3-Week Business Block.

Xcurio Waitlist Policy

  • Ensuring Fairness for High-Demand Programs Because we maintain a strict cap of 12 students per group, our sessions often reach capacity quickly. Once a week is fully booked, a Waitlist option will appear on the registration form.
  • Joining the Waitlist: It is free of charge and operates on a First-Come, First-Served basis.
  • Notification: If a spot opens, we will contact you via email/phone. You will have 24 hours to confirm and pay. If we do not hear from you, we must move to the next family.
  • Recommendation: If your preferred week is full, we recommend registering for an alternate week to guarantee a spot, while remaining on the waitlist for your first choice.

What are the drop-off and pick-up times?

A: Our standard camp day runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Drop-off begins at 8:45 AM to allow for a smooth start to the day. For families who need additional flexibility, extended care is available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Not at all. Our curriculum is introductory, age-appropriate, and designed for all learners, regardless of prior experience. Concepts are taught through games, discussions, hands-on activities, and role-play, rather than traditional lectures, ensuring students feel confident and engaged.

During the morning academic sessions, students are grouped strictly by grade to ensure high-quality instruction and appropriate pacing. In the afternoons, students choose from Arts or Games electives, which are mixed-age—allowing siblings to spend time together if they wish.

Our team is made up of experienced educators and high-achieving university students specializing in Business or Education. All staff members are background-checked, First Aid trained, and selected for their ability to connect with children in a supportive and engaging way.

While we are unable to offer refunds for missed days, our instructors will ensure your child is supported upon return. We help them catch up on key concepts and group projects so they can rejoin their classmates with confidence and without feeling behind.

Mornings focus on math or business learning, where students build academic skills in a structured but engaging environment. Afternoons are dedicated to games, arts, and creative activities, providing a balanced day that supports both learning and fun.

Students should bring a nut-free lunch, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing suitable for both classroom learning and active games. All learning materials are provided by XCurio Academy.

Yes. Our program is aligned with the Ontario Curriculum and enriched with Singapore Math methodologies, focusing on deep understanding, problem-solving, and critical thinking rather than memorization.
