Where Curiosity Inspires Excellence
At XCurio Academy, math isn’t something students memorize — it’s something they understand. Our Grades 1–6 Math program blends the Ontario Curriculum with the teaching methods of Singapore Math. Every concept moves through the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract progression: students first handle the idea with objects they can touch, then draw it, then write it symbolically. By the time a child reaches the equation, they already know why it works.
Why the method matters
Most students who struggle with math aren’t struggling with arithmetic. They’re applying steps they were taught without ever seeing the idea underneath. Singapore Math closes that gap by refusing to skip stages. Number bonds, bar models, and hands-on materials turn abstract relationships into something a child can see and manipulate.
What students learn
Number Sense and Mental Math builds flexible, confident command of place value, decomposition, number bonds, estimation, and mental strategies.
Math in the Real World connects fractions, decimals, measurement, rates, ratios, and percent to money, time, distance, recipes, and budgets.
Algebra, Geometry, and Data develops logical and spatial reasoning through pattern rules, early variables, shapes, transformations, and graph interpretation.
All of it maps to the Ontario Curriculum: Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patterning and Algebra, and Data Management.
Small classes. Real understanding. Curiosity in, Excellence out!
